This is a commercial site from Snohomish Washington sponsored by Michael and Lynn Monroe. They apparently have the largest certified organic shiitake farm in Washington (as told by the Monroe's: Tim Batiste, our state organic inspector, told us last summer that we were by far). They primarily sell home growing kits. They have listed kits for growing Oysters (the mushrooms of course) and a Reishi mushroom kit. Quotes from satisfied growers on their web page include: "Fungus Among Us Mushroom Kits are high producing easy to maintain long lasting kits with strains that can be fruited inside your house" Ken Crossman President, Snohomish County Mycological Society and "I had extremely great luck with my Fungus Among Us Shiitake Kit. It's great tasty and very healthy!" from Nancy Wyatt, RN., Member of Snohomish County Mycological Society. Added: 1/20/96; Last verified: 5/18/96

This is a web site advertising The Growing Edge magazine. Verbatim:
"Each issue is packed with information on the latest in indoor, outdoor and greenhouse growing such as artificial lights, hydroponics, aquaculture, plant propagation and breeding, and much more, presented for both the professional grower and hobby gardener.
The Growing EDGE has broken the bonds of gravity to explore NASA research for food production in space; crossed the boundary between grower and retailer to feature a supermarket that grows its own greens hydroponically, under lights; delved into biologically active plant nutrient solutions (bioponics); merged biomes to flourish in the indoor tropics of the Northwest with Oregon homegrown bananas; pursued exotic fungus with details of edible mushroom production; and much more." Wild and cultivated mushrooms for sale. They claim to offer up to 50 kinds of edible mushrooms at any given time (truffles, hedgehogs and lactaire from France, etc.). This site really is in English. Added: 12/4/95; Last verified: 5/18/96
This company offers not only wild edible mushrooms for sale during season, but also offers a service to pick mushrooms for you on a demand. They will not pick Psilocybes (for obvious reasons) and Coprinus (for shelf life reasons-- who wants an inky mess in a box). The sections that were maintained at the time of this review: Gourmet Mushrooms (a list of the standard gourmet mushrooms that they offer along with various notes as to shipping time, etc.); Science & Academics Page (under construction; this is where you would go if you wanted them to pick a specific mushroom on demand); Kinoko (Japanese Translation Page; currently nothing here); Shroom Room (this will be photos and miscellany); Current Market Price/Order Form (at the time everything was out of season so there were not prices here). This page is very much under construction but has a lot of promise for those that need wild mushrooms from the Pacific Northwest. They can be contact at via eMail at mushroom@harborside.com. From the heart of the mushroom growing region around Kennett Square in Pennsylvania we have a grower and distributer of gourmet mushrooms. The mushrooms they sell include: Shiitake, Portobello, Crimini, and Oysters (they also had limited quantities of fresh hedgehogs and black trumpets). If you want to order mushrooms you'll need to be from Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, and parts of southeastern New York (Albany to NYC), central and eastern Pennsylvania, central and eastern Virgina, and eastern West Virginia. A new site (to me anyway) from Greenville, Florida that sells organic Shiitake mushrooms. Not only do they sell shiitakes but they also have several recipes available (and they eluded to a possibly upcoming shiitake cookbook). The recipes include: Craw-Shi Dip, Shiitake Pizza, Shroom Pasta, Stuffed Jalapenos, The Tutney and Turkey Pastrami Fruit Rolls. Added: 2/11/96; Last verified: 5/18/96
What a cool name. What a cool site! If you are looking for mushroom cultivation equipment of any type, you have found the perfecti (ha ha) site. This site is very complete and is definitely one of the top sites available on mushrooms. As they mention on their home page though, if you are surfing this site with a 14.4 or lower baud rate modem, you might want to disable images (bummer, because the pictures are truly awesome). In addition to tons (probably literally) of growing supplies and pictures that are one of a kind (some were taken for Paul Stamets new book), they have pages on Mycomedicinal and dried mushroom products, a list of mushroom cultivation seminars by them, and some information on Psilocybes.
