If you're familiar with vnums, BoxMUD is a little different. Box has 2-part "vnums", of the format thing-number area-number, for example, 10 4. Every area starts with thing-number 1. "thing-number" is what you might be used to calling "vnum". So I'll call it that.
Thing?
A "thing" can be a room, an object, or a mobile. Every number is used 3 times. CONTEXT makes all the difference. So you can have room 1 4, object 1 4, and mobile 1 4. They are all the first numbered thing of their type in area 4. Got it?
Note that the vnum comes first! This is so you can leave off the area-vnum. If you refer to room 1, it'll default to whatever area you're in. So if you want to edit room 1 in your current area, you just need to type redit 1. If you load mob 1 and your default is area 4, you will load mob 1 4. Easy enough!
